The TV market will shrink slightly in 2023

The market for television sets will shrink slightly in 2023 – 3%. Things look a little better in the premium segment.

According to market analysts Counterpoint Research, around 223 million TV sets will be delivered by 2023. The US market managed to develop positively, but could not compensate for the weaknesses in Europe and China. Samsung is the market leader, especially while Chinese manufacturers such as Hisense and TCL have managed to achieve significant growth.

In the premium TV segment, delivery volume also declined in 2023, but only by 1%. There was also growth in this segment of the Chinese market. This is because Chinese TV manufacturers are increasingly pushing LCD TVs with mini-LED backlights.

In the global TV market, LG continues to be the second most successful manufacturer behind Samsung. TCL, Hisense and finally Sony follow at 3rd, 4th and 5th place respectively. We wish Panasonic some more success here. In 2024, they will try to forge closer partnerships with Amazon and Fire TV. Time will tell if it succeeds.

Hope lies in OLED and QD-OLED

In 2024, the industry certainly hopes to expand the success of OLED and QD-OLED televisions. Here you can give new inspiration to the premium segment, because, for example, the new QD-OLED panels from Samsung Display are now brighter than 3,000 nits. LG Display has achieved similar feats with its latest WOLED panels, up to 3,000 nits – thanks to Meta Technology 2.0.

In general, the market shares of Samsung and LG decreased from last year, while Hisense and TCL increased. However, things don't look rosy for all China-based TV providers as Xiaomi also posted losses. In this regard, there is also a possibility that the cards will be replaced in 2024. However, due to the difficult macroeconomic situation, it is difficult to make reliable predictions.
